The shoot-through umbrellas (translucent) are used to shoot light through and they diffuse and soften the light by reducing contrast. The White reflects a more natural, softer light. When it comes to fabric, the Silver creates a very crisp, direct light with more contrast and a high light output, a little like the light you’d get from a hard reflector. and and new zoom 2, and can assure you they are not. I can’t imagine the barndoors being up to much, but I’m sure they wouldn’t be too difficult to remove.Umbrellas are the backbone of many photographers’ toolboxes, understandably so, because they are easy to work with and ideal to bring on location. You should be able to get cheap Chinese barndoors with included gel holders that would fit a 7 inch reflector. I think the internal diameter of the Zoom Reflector 2 is closer to 7 1/4 inches. You could just tape a gel to the front of a grid I can’t remember using gels and grids together. It is great, but would take too much space to carry four tube grids. I think it is an Impact grid problem, not a reflector problem. The grids aren’t a good fit I had to use self adhesive pads on the edge of the grids to get them to sit tight. I have some grid/gel holders that fit my photogenic lights which clip on to the reflectors which are about 7 3/4 inches diameter, giver or take. Do others make gel holders that would fit the profoto grid reflector that accepts standard 7 inch grids? The profoto grid/gel holder that fits the zoom refelector, like all profoto stuff, seems way overpriced at $190 - gaffers tape is a lot cheaper per roll. I also use gels and grids together frequently. Or, they also have the tube with grids on the end that fit directly on the D1 with no refelctor. Or, you can get the grid reflector that accepts standard 7 inch grids of other brands. And, the profoto grids are 4 times as expensive as other brand grids. I see you can go with the newer zoom reflector, and then the profoto brand grids attach directly to it, but can't use other brand grids. The Profoto Grid and Filter Holder Kit for Zoom Reflector and Zoom Reflector 2 is an ideal way to maximize the potential of the variable beam angle Zoom Reflector. I'm looking for thoughts on grid and gel holders to fit Profoto D1 monolights.
